Biliobronchial Fistula Associated with Biliary Duct Obstruction by Stone

Abstract
Biliobronchial fistula is an abnormal communication between biliary tract and bronchial tree caused by congenital malformation, infection, trauma and bile duct obstuction. It rarely occurs as a complication of biliary duct obstruction.
The pathogenesis is centered around the obstruction of any of¢¥ the biliary ducts and the resultant secondary infection which leads to a communication with the subphrenic space. Phis leads to a contiguous pleuritis, rupture through the diaphragm, and the formation of a bilio bronchial fistula.
Symptoms of biliobrochial fistula caused by biliary duct obstruction are those of the biliary disease and biliptysis.
Diagnosis is aided by percutaneous transhepatic cholaugiography and removal of the obstruction to the common duct will result in the spontaneous closure of the fistula.
We had a case of biliobronchial fistula associated with common duct obstruction by stones seen recently at Seoul National University Hospital.
We report this case with review of literature.
